Revolutionising Maritime Maintenance

The Challenge: De-risking maritime maintenance with robotics for efficient operations and cleaner oceans.

At Co-Lab Create, we’re passionate about addressing real-world challenges through innovative solutions. ScrubMarine, one of our flagship projects, is a game-changing technology designed to combat biofouling in the maritime industry. Biofouling – the accumulation of organisms like algae and barnacles on vessel hulls – significantly impacts fuel efficiency, costing the industry over $100 billion annually. ScrubMarine provides an effective, sustainable solution to this pressing issue.

Find out more below:

  • ScrubMarine is a Submersible Remotely Operated Vehicle (SROV) designed to clean biofouling without the need for dry-docking, harsh chemicals, or diver intervention. It uses an advanced cavitation cleaning mechanism to remove biofouling efficiently, ensuring vessels operate at peak performance while protecting marine ecosystems.

    Key features include:

    • Sensor Suite: Real-time footage and data for biofouling identification.

    • Cavitation Cleaners: Designed for the complex geometry of vessel hulls.

    • Thrusters and Modularity: Smooth underwater navigation and adaptability for various tasks.

  • ScrubMarine started as an idea within Co-Lab Create and has grown through collaboration with local stakeholders, including farmers, to secure government funding. Our team has conducted initial research and trials to prove the concept, culminating in a £200,000 pre-seed investment from Praetura Ventures. This funding will support the next stage of development, including refining the hardware, expanding the team, and securing a dedicated workshop.

  • ScrubMarine stands out in the maritime sector with:

    • Environmentally safe cleaning technology.

    • Minimal downtime for vessels.

    • No damage to anti-fouling coatings.

    • Comprehensive support through a subscription model.

  • With development well underway, ScrubMarine is moving towards market-readiness. This includes:

    • Further testing and hardware refinement.

    • Expanding our team with roles in engineering, marketing, and management.

    • Building market presence through collaborations and partnerships.

  • ScrubMarine exemplifies our mission at Co-Lab Create to address industry challenges through innovative engineering. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to revolutionise maritime maintenance and sustainability.
